New Transfer Student Information for Fall 2024
School of Social Sciences | Undergraduate Student Affairs Office
Welcome to UCI and the School of Social Sciences!
As an incoming transfer student, you currently have a HOLD on your record. Don't worry - this is normal! The hold will be removed once you have completed your mandatory transfer advising with our office this Summer.
Below you will find information on how to complete your new student advising and enroll in your Fall classes.
Step 1: Complete the 2024 Transfer Pre-Advising Survey
To ensure that you are advised properly this Summer and in preparation for your Fall enrollment, we ask that you provide us with some background information on your academic history, as well as unofficial transcripts from each community college and/or 4-year university you have previously attended. If you already have a copy of your UC IGETC or UC Reciprocity letter, we recommend that you provide that as well. When uploading your unofficial transcripts, please name your files in the following way: Last Name_First Name_College Name
2024 Transfer Pre-Advising Survey
Note: You will need to be logged into your UCI Google account to access this form! If you have not yet activated your UCINetID and set up your UCI Google account, you can find more information on how to do that under the “Getting Started” section of our New Student Information page.
Students who did not complete the Pre-Advising Survey by the extended June 28th deadline
are considered to be LATE.
LATE students who wish to be helped with their Fall registration in late August (after our first-year orientations have been completed) should make sure to get the Pre-Advising Survey AND their Social Sciences Transfer Advising Canvas modules done by August 2nd.
Step 2: Complete Academic Advising
Students who complete the Transfer Pre-Advising Survey after the extended deadline on June 28th are considered to be LATE. These students wshould have already received several emails with details on how to complete their academic advising, and should refer back to them for information on the steps they need to compelte to enroll in their Fall classes. These emails will be sent to your UCI student email, so please make sure you are checking it regularly!
Note: for students submitting the Pre-Advising Survey after the original June 6th deadline, the ONLY available advising option will be Remote Advising, as registration for In-Person advising has already closed.
All incoming transfer students will also be required to complete our Social Sciences Transfer Advising course online through the Canvas learning platform as part of their summer advising. This course is mandatory. Information on how to access this Canvas course has already been sent to LATE students.
More information on the remote advising option can be found below:
Option 1: In-Person Advising (CLOSED)
Social Sciences will be offering limited in-person academic advising for new transfer students between June 18th - June 28th . In-person advising sessions will be roughly 2 hours long and will be held on-campus at UCI with our academic advisors, who will assist students with enrollment into their Fall courses. Registration for these in-person advising sessions will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, and will only be available to students who submitted the Transfer Pre-Advising Survey prior to the June 6th deadline.
Sessions will be held in Social and Behavioral Sciences Gateway (SBSG) 1241. Morning sessions will run from 10am - 12pm and afternoon sessions will run from 1:30pm - 3:30pm. Sessions will be available by major on the following dates:

Registration for In-Person Advising has CLOSED.
Each session will be capped at 30 students. Once the session is full, the registration form will be closed, and students who are not able to sign up will be included in our remote advising group. Confirmation emails will be sent to students who have successfully registered with additional information for their in-person session, including directions to campus and parking information. Students who have not received a confirmation email from our office will NOT be permitted to attend the session!
Students attending an in-person advising session will be required to complete their Canvas course prior to the date of their session. Failure to complete all Canvas modules prior to your session date may result in a delay in your Fall enrollment!
Note: in-person sessions are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment.
Option 2: Remote Advising
Social Sciences is providing an online academic advising option for students who wish to complete their new student advising remotely, or for those students who are not able to register for an in-person advising session. Online advising is done through email; individual Zoom appointments are NOT available via the remote advising option. If you are looking for detailed, 1-on-1 guidance from an advisor on your major requirements and Fall enrollment, we strongly recommend that you attend one of the in-person sessions for your major!
All students who submit the Transfer Pre-Advising Survey after the initial June 6th deadline will be completing their advising online through this remote option.
LATE students who have completed all their Canvas modules by the August 2nd deadline will have their HOLD removed and be sent a Fall course registration email from one of our academic advisors between August 12th – 16th. This email will be sent to your UCI student email address and will contain a degree check sheet for your major with an evaluation of your transfer coursework, as well as course suggestions for Fall quarter. Once you receive this email, you are free to enroll in your Fall courses on your own!
Note: it can take time for our advisors to send out these emails, so please be patient
with us! If you still haven't received your Fall registraiton email by Friday, August
16th, then at that time you can reach out to us.
Zoom Drop-In Sessions: Zoom drop-in hours have already closed for remote advising students. LATE students will need to direct all theirquestions via email to the advisor who sends their Fall registration information to them.
